One word can be used to describe Mike Trout, and that word is phenom. Trout, at age 26, is breaking records and doing things that only a few coveted names like Mantle, Cobb, Hornsby, and A-Rod have done. Trout, in 2012 at only 20 years old, almost won both Rookie of the Year and American League MVP; that’s how great this guy is. He consistently hits over .300, hits 20+ homeruns, steals over 20 bags more seasons than not, and drives in over 90 runs.
Mike Trout is the first player in MLB history to hit 150+ homeruns and steal 150+ bases before the age of 26. He is 1 of just 6 players to win multiple MVP awards before the age of 26. He also finished runner-up 3 times, and as of the time we’re writing this, he’s only played 6 seasons in the bigs. That’s one heck of a track record. Only A-Rod and Albert Pujols have hit more homers than Trout before turning 26. His 53.3 WAR (wins above replacement) is second only to Ty Cobb.
The numbers don’t lie. Trout might just become one of history’s best baseball players, and we get to watch him obliterate records for years to come in a day and age when we’ve been told the true greats are all behind us. Mike Trout is here to stay, and is a no-brainer to be a future Hall of Famer.
