Is there any more iconic swing in baseball than that of Ken Griffey Jr? The Kid’s professional career began in 1989 with the Seattle Mariners. He played 11 season there before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2000, where he played until 2008, and then had a short stint with the White Sox. He finished his career where it began in Seattle playing his final 2 season there before retiring in 2010. What a monumental career it was for Griffey. He had a career average of .284, fell just shy of 3,000 hits with 2,781, and hit 630 homeruns.
To add to those numbers comes a lot of hardware. Griffey was a 13-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove winner, 7-time Silver Slugger, and he won the AL MVP in 1997 with the Mariners in what would be one of the great seasons in MLB history with 56 homeruns and 147 RBIs. Griffey’s success isn’t shocking as he was no stranger to baseball from an early age. He was always in professional clubhouses with his father. Now he is cemented as one of the greatest players in the history of the game, as he was recently selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and his #24 jersey was retired by the Mariners.
