The Philadelphia 76ers has been an integral part of the NBA landscape since its inception in 1949. Originally established as the Syracuse Nationals and based in New York, this formidable and growing team made it to the Finals during their inaugural season. Although they didn't win the title during their debut year, the Nationals continued to build their franchise and eventually went on to win the NBA championship in 1955. In 1964 and after much ado, the team relocated to the City of Brotherly Love and transformed themselves into the Philadelphia 76ers. The move proved to be good for the franchise and the 76ers made playoff appearances in their first eight seasons in Philadelphia, winning their second championship in franchise history in 1967. Another title also followed in 1983.
Since then, the 76ers have only managed to make the championship round once, in 2001, where the fell to the Los Angeles Lakers. In the 10 years since that appearance, they have made the playoffs more than a handful of times and given the team's recent success, 76ers fans everywhere have reason to be excited about the future.
