It’s hard to forget James Worthy, the former University of North Carolina standout who was selected first overall by L.A. in the 1982 NBA Draft and was a part of three NBA title seasons: in 1985, 1987 and in 1988, when he earned NBA Finals MVP honors. Following his retirement after the 1993-94 campaign, Worthy was named one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players (1996) and was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. His No. 42 jersey, retired by the Lakers in 1995 and currently hanging in Staples Center, still brings back memories of him coming up with the big play.
