Cal Ripken Jr Career Accomplishments:
Starting every game for the Baltimore Orioles in a 17-year span (May 30, 1982 - Sept. 20, 1998), Cal Ripken, Jr., distinguished himself as Baseball’s all-time “Iron Man.” His record of 2,632 consecutive games played eclipsed that of New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig. Ripken’s incredible starting streak is just one facet of a sparkling career, during which he was named to 17 consecutive All-Star Games and won two Gold Gloves. He led the American League in assists at shortstop four times and set a single-season record with 583 assists in 1984. In 1990, he committed only three errors, the fewest ever in a full season by a major league shortstop. After playing his entire career in Baltimore, where his father had played before him, Cal Ripken, Jr., retired in 2001 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
